AP Polls: Iowa women’s basketball teams up in rankings

The Hawkeyes made the biggest jump in the polls this week. The University of Iowa is now No. 11, up from 19. It's one of the seven Big Ten schools in the poll. Iowa State University moves up to No. 10, previously No. 12. It's one of five Big 12 schools in the rankings this week. The Hawkeyes knocked off then-No. 7 Baylor in the WBCA Showcase in Florida to remain unbeaten. It's the team's best ranking since Caitlin Clark led them to the NCAA championship game in 2024. UConn remains No. 1 in the standings Monday. Iowa faces Western Illinois at home in its next game Wednesday evening. Iowa State takes on Marquette Friday morning at the Alico Arena in Fort Meyers, Florida....

Two Cedar Rapids traffic cameras on I-380 to resume issuing warnings next month

The cameras are located at J Avenue on the northbound side and First Avenue on the southbound side. Both locations are where drivers exit the "S-Curve" on Interstate 380. The cameras were shut off due to a law passed last year requiring the city to get approval from the Department of Transportation (DOT). The Iowa DOT approved an appeal to turn the cameras back on a couple weeks ago. The city says the cameras are needed to help control speed and ensure safety on the curve. The cameras will begin a warning phase on December 2, and tickets will be sent out starting January 1....
Grinnell College joins community organizations in funding food support programs

The private university announced in a news release last week it has committed $10,000 to the Grinnell Food Coalition, an initiative within the Claude W. and Dolly Ahrens Foundation that works to address food needs. Insurance company Grinnell Mutual and the Campbell Fund, a'trust'operated by the city, also donated $10,000 each, according to the release. Jennifer Cogley, director of programs for the foundation, said Monday the coalition has reached its $50,000 fundraising goal. While benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, are being'issued'once again after the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, the release stated "many households and local food providers continue to face significant strain as demand for food assistance rises....
Iowa Supreme Court upholds $4.25 million wrongful death verdict against Manchester police

Mormann was killed after Lt. James Wessels of the Manchester Police Department continued a high-speed chase that other agencies had discontinued. The chase ended when Wessels crashed into Mormann's motorcycle, severely injuring him. Mormann died about a month later from his injuries. The case was never initially investigated until Mormann's family took matters into their own hands, according to their attorney, Dave O'Brien. "This case, for example, was never even investigated.
